Finding Events and Activities to Attend

What is SureToMeet?
SureToMeet is a free contact service that helps you find local events. In addition, you can use SureToMeet to promote your own public events, private meetings, and personal activities.

You can use SureToMeet for business, organizations, fun groups — any gathering that helps peple meet face-to-face.

How does SureToMeet work?
For public events, the event organizers enter a description of their event, when and where it will be held, and select a category. In addition, they include a link to the organization's Web site.

When you're looking for an event, just click Find Events and select the type of event you're looking for. And, your My Calendar page shows recommendations based on the interests you checked on your profile.

Event organizers can also use SureToMeet to e-mail event announcements to people who have indicated an interest in the organization's events.

For private meetings and personal activities, organizations and individuals can use SureToMeet to send announcements to a list of friends, associates, or members of a group. The only difference between public events and these non-public activities and meetings is that they don't appear on the public calendar of events

How is SureToMeet easier or better than using Outlook to e-mail event and activity announcements?
SureToMeet overcomes many of the problems of using the address book in Outlook to e-mail announcements and invitations, such as limits by your ISP, the need to track responses, and the challenge of keeping your address book updated.

How extensive is your community calendar of events?
We want SureToMeet to list every public event in your area so you can find the events that match your interests.

Every event is entered by the event organizer, so if you know of an event not on our community calendar, please e-mail or call the event organizer and ask them to add it to our calendar.

How can you provide this service for free?
We include ads supplied by Google that are tailored to each event. We hope you find these event-related resources helpful to you and your group.

Do your e-mail event announcements have ads?
No, our e-mail event announcements, reminders, and newsletters do not contain ads — they include only information about events and links to other material on the SureToMeet Web site. Ads appear only on the SureToMeet Web site.

Is SureToMeet a good face-to-face "networking" tool for me?
Yes! Our goal is to help you meet people like yourself face-to-face at local events and activities — whether that's for business or personal networking. Since SureToMeet is for face-to-face events, activities, and meetings, you'll find it's an excellent source of networking opportunities.

How many e-mails will I receive from event organizers?
Event organizers are allowed to send an invitation and five reminders for an event. Most event organizers send a reminder a week before an event and a second reminder the day before an event. However, when event details change just before an event, you may receive additional reminders with updated information. Their event may be included in our weekly e-mail newsletter of recommended events. And, soon you will be able to choose to receive e-mail reminders of events on your personal schedule of events even if the organizer doesn't send reminders.

I have separate e-mail addresses for work and personal use. How do I combine business and personal events into one calendar?
You can enter multiple e-mail addresses in your SureToMeet profile so event organizers can invite you using any of your addresses. This means your calendar of events will show all your upcoming events — business and personal — on one unified calendar.

Will I automatically be notified of new events in categories that match my interest profile?
Yes, our weekly e-mail newsletter contains a list of recommended public events based on your interest profile. Just remember to indicate on your profile which categories you're interested in, and be sure to subscribe to our opt-in newsletter.

How do I subscribe to all of a particular event organizer's event announcements?
First, encourage that event organizer to place a SureToMeet subscription form on their Web site. Second, use their subscription form to request event announcements.

How is SureToMeet different from other "social networking" sites like LinkedIn and Spoke? Is SureToMeet a "dating" site?
Many social networking sites help you make connections with another individual or with "friends of friends," but SureToMeet is different. SureToMeet helps you attend local events and activities attended by people who match your interests so you can meet people face-to-face.

We think you would rather attend local events where you are sure to meet people like you — people who share your interests.

SureToMeet is not a dating site where they match you to another individual. We think you would like to meet a large number of people in the casual setting of an event, activity, or meeting. This way you can meet people at business events, community service activities, hobby and special interest clubs, as well as family and friend gatherings, etc. We just help you get there.

How do I unsubscribe from e-mails?
Each event announcement e-mail contains a link to block messages from that organizer. Each of our newsletter issues also contains a link to unsubscribe to the opt-in newsletter. You can change your interest profile at any time by adding or removing interest.

Promoting Events and Activities

Can I create groups of contacts that I've met at events?
People who attend events with you may have turned on the profile feature that allows you to add them to your SureToMeet Contacts list. This helps you build your contact list without having to enter contact information from business cards, etc. You can invite these contacts to your events, activities, and meetings.

How many contact groups can I have?
There is no limit to the number of contact groups you can create. The more active you are, the more contact groups you will need to keep your "address book" organized.

How can I automatically add a contact group to events?

When you select a contact group for an event SureToMeet automatically adds those contacts to the event shortly after you make this selection. Then, as you add contacts to that contact group, SureToMeet automatically adds those new people to the event .

This means that if you use repeating events, such as for a monthly or weekly meeting, every time you add a contact to the contact group, SureToMeet will automatically add that person to the upcoming events.

What kind of events and activities could I use SureToMeet for?
Individuals use SureToMeet to send invitations for all types of personal activities such as parties, sports, networking, groups going to the movies, games, and family reunions. Organizations, clubs, and community groups sponsor many activities for members and volunteers. Events that are open to the general public are included in our public calendar of events and our weekely newsletter.

What kind of private meetings could I use SureToMeet for?
Many organizations and community groups hold a variety of internal meetings, such as volunteer training, board and committee meetings, and planning sessions. SureToMeet can be used to notify committees and teams about upcoming meetings. Businesses can use SureToMeet to arrange staff meetings, outings, and sales meetings.

Do my events have to show who I've invided or who's coming, or can the invitation list be private?
Event organizers choose whether to make their invitation list public or not. You can choose to make public only those who RSVP Yes, or any combination of Yes, Maybe, No or Not Responded. For large public events, such as conferences or seminars, you may not want to show any of the attendees because the list would be very long. However, some event organizers want to show invitees who else is coming to encourage people to register for the conference, and network before, during, and after the event.

Even when you keep the list of your attendees private, you can still see the text messages that attendees enter when they RSVP.

How are time zones used on events?
For invitees who have not updated the time zone in their profile, event pages display the time zone entered by the event organizer.

When an invitee has updated their time zone in their profile, and their time zone is different from the event's time zone, the event page automatically adjusts the starting and ending time to match the invitee's local time zone.

There are two ways that an invitee's profile can have itstime zone updated:

  • When a contact/invitee creates their SureToMeet personal profile, they can manually select their time zone, or their Zip Code will be used to automatically select their time zone.

  • If your contact/invitee has not created their SureToMeet personal profile, the changes you make on the Contact Information form (such as for their time zone) will update the personal profile for that contact.

Keep in mind that once a contact has registered and created their personal profile, changes that you make using your Contact Information form will not automatically update their profile.

In addition, if your contact selects the option to share their profile updates, and you have selected the option to receive their profile updates automatically, their profile changes will cause their data on your Contact Information form (including time zone) to be updated.
