Salon for Artists with Truong Tran, Genny Lim, and Tim Stapleton

CIIS welcomes three accomplished artists--visual artist and poet, Truong
Tran; set designer and photographer, Tim Stapleton; and poet, musician,
and performer, Genny Lim--for an informal, salon-like gathering centered
on the theme of interdisciplinary arts. Join us for a reception followed
by a lively conversation about creating, finding, and performing art
across multiple disciplines. The conversation will be facilitated by
writer and CIIS faculty member, Kris Brandenburger.

Genny Lim's live and recorded poetry/music collaborations have included
jazz greats, Max Roach, Herbie Lewis, Francis Wong and Jon Jang. Her play
"Paper Angels," was performed at Settlement House in New York City and her
performance piece, "Where is Tibet?" premiered at CounterPULSE. She is
adjunct faculty in the BAC program at CIIS and author of two poetry
collections, "Child of War," and "Winter Place."

Tim Stapleton has been a professional Scenic Designer for thirty years.
Tim's paintings have been shown at the Mina Dresden Gallery in San
Francisco and his short play Blue Diamond was produced by Artists
Repertory Theatre as a part of their Spotlight festival. Tim has three
Drammy awards from the Portland Area Theatre Alliance for his stage
designs, as well as a Fellowship from The National Endowment for the Arts.

Truong Tran is committed to making art accessible through the creative
reuse of everyday materials. Tran uses wax, thread, light, color and found
objects as a way of constructing veils that must be lifted to arrive at
the meaning embedded within. He obtained his MFA from San Francisco State
University and has received the Fund for Poetry Grant, three San Francisco
Arts Commission Cultural Equity Grants, and The Intersection for the Arts'
Writer in Residency Fellowship. He has shown his work locally at APAture,
Kearny Street Workshop, and A. Muse Gallery. He has published many volumes
of poetry and is currently the Visiting Professor in Poetry at Mills
College.
