New Beginning-Journey of the Soul

Date/time:
Opening reception Sunday, August 8, 8-9pm; exhibit runs through Sept. 2010

When McGraw Hill Publishers selected one deceased and one living Jewish
artist for a college textbook on the world's religions, they chose Marc
Chagall and Bruce David. On Sunday, August 8, 2010, at 8pm, the Center for
Jewish Life at the Osher Marin JCC will host an opening reception for the
first west coast exhibition of Bruce David's extraordinary artwork. New
Beginnings - Journey of the Soul features original, hand-pulled serigraphs
and limited edition lithographs depicting vivid biblical and Judaic
imagery filled with hidden symbolism.

Bruce David's work has won the praise of numerous museum directors,
gallery owners, art professors and critics. While he appreciates that his
work is valued for its artistic merit, his greatest joy is in using his
completed works as contemporary educational tools, promoting Jewish
understanding and awareness. At the gallery opening reception on August
8th, Bruce will be presenting a talk on his unique work and the hidden
messages in his colorful imagery.

In addition to the lithographs, serigraphs, metal sculpture and stained
glass windows that Bruce David has created, he has also designed and
overseen fabrication of large-scale glass mosaic panels and is currently
working on a number of large multimedia art pieces commissioned by
synagogues and individuals.

Art critic Jeff Stone reviewed a recent exhibit of Bruce David's work and
wrote, "Taking a spiritual journey through the depths and dimensions of
Bruce David's painting is dancing with destiny, with history, and ancestry
all at once."

Admission to the gallery opening reception, featuring a presentation and
refreshments, is free. The exhibit will be at the Osher Marin JCC's Isaacs
Gallery through September 2010.

The Center for Jewish Life, funded by the Koret Foundation and the Taube
Foundation for Jewish Life, is dedicated to providing a range of adult
Jewish learning opportunities to the greater North Bay community.
