Sing-it-Yourself Messiah
The San Francisco Academy Orchestra, joined by acclaimed soloists Heidi Klein (soprano), Janet Campbell (mezzo-soprano) and Brian Thorsett (tenor) perform "backup" to the citizens of San Francisco in a true "Sing-it-Yourself" Messiah, an audience-friendly performance of the Christmas and Hallelujah portions of G.F. Handel's epic. All net proceeds from the concert will be donated to the SF Food Bank.
Guest conductor Alden Gilchrist is offering a free workshop to both the familiar and first-time Messiah singers on Saturday, December 19 (10am), to provide both historical context of the piece and an opportunity to rehearse various parts of the score. Attendees are free to bring their own "Messiah" scores, or may purchase ($5) or rent ($1) copies before the workshop or performance.
Immediately following the concert, the Academy Orchestra will be hosting a holiday party at Calvary for attendees with wine, appetizers, and a silent auction which will include musical memorabilia, San Francisco Symphony tickets, vacation packages, wine, and restaurant gift certificates.
About San Francisco Academy Orchestra: The Academy Orchestra offers a hand-selected group of young professional musicians the opportunity to rehearse and perform alongside members of the SF Symphony, helping maximize their artistic potential by making members of the acclaimed Symphony Orchestra more accessible to the young and talented.
