Justice For All 2010 Awards Dinner
Date/time: Thursday, March 11, Reception at 6:00 PM, dinner and awards program at 7:00 PM
The Northern California Innocence Project (NCIP) is holding their annual "Justice for All" awards dinner on Thursday March 11, 2010 at The Fairmont San Jose.
The program features Joyce Ann Brown who was wrongfully convicted of a robbery and murder in 1981, and Brian Dennehy, film, TV and stage star, who is directing "Redemption," the story of Joyce Ann Brown's conviction, incarceration, exoneration and ultimate redemption.
The fundraising dinner honors the many who raise awareness of wrongful convictions and fight to rectify and prevent them. This year's award recipients are:
Media Award - Stuart Taylor Jr., co-author of "Until Proven Innocent: Political Correctness and the Shameful Injustices of the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case," which exposed the rush to judgment by police, prosecutors and others resulting in false rape charges against three Duke lacrosse players.
Leadership Award - Jim Anderson, Founding Partner, Foundation Capital and Legacy Venture and NCIP Advisory Board member since 2004, for consistent leadership and dedication to helping free the wrongfully convicted and for making real policy changes to prevent future wrongful convictions.
Freedom Award - Rick Walker, who was wrongfully convicted of murder and spent twelve years in prison for a crime he did not commit until family friend and attorney Alison Tucher convinced the district attorney of his innocence in 2003.
Pro Bono Award - Morrison & Foerster LLP for their hundreds of pro bono hours and generous contribution of resources to NCIP cases. Alison Tucher, partner, who was instrumental in proving Rick Walker's innocence and securing his exoneration and has led the firm's work for NCIP, will accept the award on behalf of Morrison & Foerster LLP.
The Northern California Innocence Project is a pro bono legal clinic at Santa Clara University School of Law where students work with supervising attorneys to exonerate the wrongfully convicted.
