Description
|
Dear Temple Aliyah Members & Friends,
Tuesday, a major earthquake struck Haiti. Buildings and Schools crumbled, hospitals collapsed, and even the Presidential palace fell. Today, countless people dig through rubble with their bare hands, looking for any trace of loved ones. Tens of thousands of people are reported dead and the death toll continues to rise after the most devastating earthquake to shake the region in two hundred years. Thousands of homes have been destroyed and over three million people have been left without adequate food, shelter, healthcare and basic infrastructure.
In response to this humanitarian crisis, Temple Aliyah has established an Haiti Emergency Fund. Individuals can contribute online at www.templealiyah.org, by clicking on the Emergency Haiti Fund link on the left side of the welcome page under upcoming events, or by mail: Temple Aliyah - Emergency Haiti Fund, 6025 Valley Circle Boulevard, Woodland Hills, California, 91367.
100% of collected donations will go directly to support non-sectarian needs on the ground; The Jewish Federation of Los Angeles will absorb all administrative costs. Funds will be distributed in consultation with the Jewish Coalition for Disaster Relief, through the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), American Jewish World Service, MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, IsraAID (the coordinating body of Israeli charities devoted to global relief work) and other global partners.
