One of the speakers is Samuel Garang Akau, a refugee from Southern Sudan, was resettled in the U.S. at age 19. Akau is a 2006 graduate from Stanford University and co-founder and director of New Scholars, a start-up NGO developing youth entrepreneurs and leaders, currently focused on Southern Sudan and Kenya.
Mohamed Suleiman is a Darfuri. His village, Umbarow, was burned and destroyed by the Government of Sudan and Janjaweed. Suleiman lost members of this family to the Darfur genocide: his mother and siblings still reside in Darfur. Suleiman is President of the San Francisco Bay Area Darfur Coalition.
