India Jazz Suites starring Pandit Chitresh Das and Jason Samuels Smith
Date/time: Saturday, March 20 6:00pm-8:00pm
65-year old kathak maestro Pandit Chitresh Das and a 29-year old tap sensation Jason Samuels Smith unite in an explosive collaboration.
The Chitresh Das Dance Company & Chhandam School (CDDC) kick off their 30th anniversary celebration with a revival of their acclaimed India Jazz Suites. Pandit Chitresh Das, the Kathak master, matches percussive footwork with tap dance honcho Jason Samuels Smith in what has been called "one of the more blissful dance experiences of the decade" (San Francisco Chronicle).
After premiering in San Francisco in 2005, India Jazz Suites received wide critical acclaim and toured around the U.S. and India. It was chosen as the #1 Dance Performance of 2005 by the San Francisco Chronicle and won the Isadora Duncan Dance Award (Izzie) for Best Ensemble Performance of the year. The combination of one of India's foremost Kathak masters and one of the world's greatest exponents of tap crosses boundaries of age, race, and culture as they revel in the pure joy of dance. The performance of India Jazz Suites will be followed by a high-profile gala dinner reception.
