A Live Music and Variety Showcase hosted by Ben Simon Presented by the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra
Featuring Tod Brody, flute and Michel Taddei, double bass With special musical guests Teslim!
In the tradition of the classic radio variety show, the SFCO presents a showcase of the best live music from around San Francisco and the Bay Area. Featuring top performing talent from the Bay Area's world-class conservatories, orchestras, and ensembles, the series brings fresh sounds across musical styles and genres-classical, jazz, acoustic, pop, international, and more. All this, plus lively, bright and informative conversation with musicians and composers, classical-music quizzes, games and contests that bring the audience right into the action!
The series kicks off with the formidable talents of flutist flutist Tod Brody and double bassist Michel Taddei, performing stunning solo work and joining forces for show-stopping duet. PLUS: Old-world mastery from Teslim, performing traditional and original Greek, Turkish and Sephardic music on restored traditional instruments.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS TESLIM (Tes-LEEM) features violinist Kaila Flexer a descendant of Polish klezmer musicians, and Gari Hegedus on (mostly plucked) strings including Turkish saz, oud, Greek lauoto and hand drums. This potent duo performs original and Sephardic music.
Michel Taddei is Principal Bassist of the Berkeley, Fremont, and Pacific Chamber Symphonies, as well as the Mendocino Music Festival and San Francisco Chamber Orchestra (SFCO), and serves as Assistant Principal Bassist of the California Symphony.
Tod Brody is in the forefront of contemporary music activity in Northern California as principal flutist with the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, Earplay, and the Empyrean Ensemble. His varied musical life also includes teaching flute and chamber music at the University of California, Davis, and playing principal flute for the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra.
