ODC PILOT 56 - 'My Young Nostalgic Life'

Date/time:
March 27th at 8pm and March 28th at 5pm and 8pm

SIX NEW EMERGING CHOREOGRAPHIC VOICES

Chosen from over 60 applicants, six strong female voices emerge,
presenting dances on March 27-28, 2010. This is Pilot's 56th run, and as
the only program of its kind. ODC provides the performance venue,
technical production, lighting, and box office, but Pilot challenges
choreographers to "pull themselves up by their own bootstraps" and produce
a concert on a discretionary budget of $300.

Pilot 56 artists come from a diverse background of culture and dance
influence. Elizabeth Castaneda, having already participated in two
previous Pilot programs, is the group facilitator-the go-to veteran.
Castaneda's piece will walk the audience through the exhibition hall of
her heart, exploring the essential motivations and emotions of life.
Angela Demmel, an MFA candidate at Mills College, offers a piece that will
explore dream space, drawing inspiration from Salvador Dali paintings.
Yukie Fujimoto, a former ODC/Dance dancer and a mother of two boys, is
crafting a duet inspired by doll costumes. With these inanimate bodies
Fujimoto will express the artlessness of uncoupling oneself from bizarre
attachments. Sarah Lewin recently graduated and moved to San Francisco.
This will be her first time choreographing outside of a scholastic
institution. She will present a duet that focuses on snapshot moments in
time. Lewin is playing with the ephemeral nature of memory and the ways in
which our present and future self can deteriorate. Michelle Fletcher is
working on a full-length piece about marijuana and human energy. Fletcher
will utilize Pilot 56 to craft the final section, which taps into the
body's ability to create natural highs. Last, but certainly not least, is
Noosh Afarin. Afarin is a Persian physician who brings passionate,
underground dance (illegal in Iran) to the Pilot stage. "Rooftop
Awakening" Afarin's piece shares the healing power of community, as well
as the ongoing struggle to achieve individual rights under oppression.
