Zanku Armenian Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, Southern California Edison
Zanku Armenian has more than 20 years of experience leading communications strategies for major corporations and high-profile issue campaigns. Mr. Armenian currently is a senior manager in the corporate communications department of Southern California Edison, one of the nation's largest electric utilities. He and his team provide communications counsel and support for the company's largest business units including Transmission and Distribution, Customer Service, Advanced Technology, Power Procurement, Ethics and Compliance and major company initiatives such as Edison's nationally recognized smart meter and smart grid programs. Mr. Armenian has worked at the Motion Picture Association of America driving communications programs working with member studios including Disney, Fox, MGM, NBC Universal, Paramount and Sony Pictures. He also has extensive experience working for global public relations agencies. He was Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Western Region, based in the Silicon Valley, with Brodeur Worldwide, a global public relations firm specializing in communications strategies and services for technology companies.
Prior to heading Brodeur's western region, Mr. Armenian established and built Brodeur's Washington, D.C. office, launching the firm's technology issues management practice. As a native of the Washington, D.C. area, Mr. Armenian has in-depth experience in public affairs and crisis communications working with major corporations and industry coalitions. He was a founding member of Powell Tate with President Jimmy Carter's press secretary Jody Powell and First Lady Nancy Reagan's press secretary Sheila Tate. He has also held positions with the worldwide public relations firm Burson-Marsteller. During his work at these major public affairs firms he worked closely with influential lobbying firms and media trained prominent CEOs and domestic and international political figures. He has led issue campaigns in industry sectors including airlines, entertainment, travel, technology, defense, pharmaceutical and financial services. Armenian has also worked in the House of Representatives, U.S. Senate and ABC News and has been very active in national, state, local and presidential political campaigns. Mr. Armenian graduated from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in mass communication with a secondary concentration in government and politics.
Karen Doodeman-Callahan Director of Sales & Marketing, A.R.E. (the Association for Retail Environments)
For the past 15 years, Karen Doodeman-Callahan has served in a variety of roles with the Association for Retail Environments (A.R.E.), the largest trade association representing retail environments suppliers and designers worldwide. Her responsibilities have included membership sales, retention and marketing, event management and marketing, CRM and knowledge database management, member and retailer communications, industry outreach, brand management and public relations. A.R.E. sponsors GlobalShop, the largest North American trade show for retail construction and design, and produces the premier design awards competition and presentation in the retail environments industry.
Prior to A.R.E., Ms. Doodeman-Callahan produced trade shows for the Florida Restaurant Association, the National Retail Federation, the National Automated Clearing House Association and the Electronic Messaging Association. She began her career as a freelance writer and sales assistant and producer for KPIX-TV, the CBS affiliate in San Francisco. Ms. Doodeman-Callahan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Dramatic Arts at the University of California at Santa Barbara.
